ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister, Murtaza Solangi, stated on Thursday that major political parties must present a comprehensive economic vision for the future of the country.
Addressing a seminar titled “Pakistan Elections 2024: Economic Reforms Agenda of Political Parties,” hosted by the Press Information Department, Solangi urged political parties to contribute to the betterment of the nation through their economic proposals.
He emphasized that the improvement of the economy was crucial at the present juncture.
Solangi called for consensus on the economic direction and emphasized that addressing the economy was the need of the hour. He stated that there is no ban on politics but cautioned against politicizing the nation’s future.
Solangi expressed the view that politics inherently revolves around the economy and economic interests. He identified education, health, and gender equality as primary concerns, stating that these issues should take center stage in political discourse.
Consensus Needed on Economic Direction: Solangi
The minister urged future rulers and political parties to formulate realistic economic reform agendas and avoid making promises that may be challenging to fulfill. With the upcoming elections in 2024 scheduled for February 8, Solangi reassured that there should be no doubt about the election process in the country.
Solangi highlighted the authority of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in setting the election date, emphasizing that the ECP is the sole constitutional institution responsible for the schedule, and no other institution has the power to alter it. He committed to fulfilling the financial, administrative, and security requirements of the Election Commission.
Referring to the preamble of the Constitution, Solangi underscored that the country is meant to be governed by its elected representatives, and unelected individuals do not have the authority to decide the nation’s future.
