ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari called for operational enhancement of power generation companies (GENCOS) to save taxpayer money.
Amid a detailed briefing with officials from Genco Holding Company (GHCL) here on Tuesday, the minister expressed concern regarding maladministration of GENCOS and urged for the immediate future course of action to check the bleeding of taxpayer money.
Leghari ordered a comprehensive report on the affairs of all GENCOS, including the potential sale or alternative utilization of their assets. He stressed the accumulating of relevant information being crucial for the government to make informed and timely decisions regarding such institutions, which at present posed a major financial burden on the national exchequer.
The minister also highlighted the need for a detailed report on the surplus employees within GENCOS ahead of a timely decision regarding the status and future of the additional employees. Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari directed GENCOS officials to prioritize and efficiently handle pending legal cases in courts to protect the institutions from further financial losses and ensure their operational sustainability in the future.
