ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has emphasized the crucial role of women in the electoral process during a policy forum organized by South Asia Partnership Pakistan titled “Women’s Participation in Elections” on Monday.

Highlighting the significance of women, who make up half of Pakistan’s population, Solangi said that empowering women is a sacred duty. He recalled the historic achievement of Benazir Bhutto, noting that she became the first female prime minister from Pakistan in the Muslim world.

Women’s Participation in Elections and Gender Equality

Solangi expressed the view that eradicating gender discrimination must begin at home, advocating for equal rights for daughters and sons in every household. He stressed that overcoming gender disparities requires a shift in mindset, not just the enactment of new laws.

While acknowledging the caretaker government’s limited mandate, Solangi assured that it is prepared to take all necessary measures to empower women if presented with concrete proposals. He announced that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would unveil the election schedule before December 16, with general elections scheduled for February 8.

“There should be no doubt about the elections, as February 8 is the confirmed date for the general elections,” said Murtaza Solangi.
