ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department Deputy Director has said that rainfall would likely continue for the next 2 to 3 days, with the next monsoon spell expected next week, while urging citizens to stay alert due to the risk of urban flooding in cities.
Pakistan state-run news agency (APP) cited Irfan Virk, Pakistan Meteorological Department Deputy Director, as saying that urban flooding is expected in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Hyderabad. He urged citizens and departments to remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding.
Rainfall
He urged that the new spell of monsoon rainfall was likely to bring widespread showers, which could exacerbate the risk of flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and urban centres.
He said that heavy rainfall will continue, affecting central Punjab, northern areas and Kashmir, where flash floods are expected.
The official said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience rainfall, with the possibility of heavy showers in various regions, further increasing the risk of flash floods.
He advised citizens to take necessary precautions, stay informed about weather updates and avoid venturing into flood-prone areas during the rainfall to ensure their safety.
The official also urged the local authorities to be prepared for any emergency situations caused by the expected downpours.
Losses
Earlier, a preliminary report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Saturday said that torrential rains, flash floods, strong winds and landslides have so far claimed at least 19 lives and left six injured across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the past 48 hours.
Among the deceased were six men, five women, and eight children, while the injured include three men and three women.
