Pakistan Met Office Predicts More Rain from July 28

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rains with wind-thundershower from July 28th, with occasional gaps in different parts of the country.

According to the Met Office, weak monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in upper and central parts of the country and are likely to intensify from Monday. It said a westerly wave is likely to approach on 29th July.

It said that under the influence of these meteorological conditions, rain-wind with isolated heavy falls is expected in Kashmir from 27th to 31st July, while rain-wind and thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan from 27th to 31st July with occasional gaps.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain-wind with isolated heavy falls is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai Kurram, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan from 28th to 31st July with occasional gaps.

It said that in Punjab and Islamabad, rain-wind with scattered heavy falls is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Kasur and Okara from  28th to 31st July with occasional gaps.

It said that in Balochistan, rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavy fall) is expected in the Northeastern/southern parts (Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Lasbella, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Ziarat, Kalat and Sherani) from 29th (night) to 31st July.

While in Sindh, mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the province. However, rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Tharparker, Umer Kot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki and Larkana on 30th to 31st July with occasional gaps.

Possible flash floods

According to the PMD, heavy rains may generate flash floods in local streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Hill torrents of D.G Khan and adjoining parts of northeastern Balochistan, Northeast Punjab, and Kashmir from 29th to 31st July.

It said heavy falls may cause urban floods in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Sialkot from 28th (night) to 31st July.

The PMD warned that landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir during the forecast period.

Stay alert

The public, travelers, and tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to vulnerable areas, remain cautious to prevent any untoward incidents, and stay updated on the latest weather conditions.

The PMD said all concerned authorities are advised to remain “ALERT” and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
