Pakistan Met Office Forecasts Monsoon Rains Across Country from Wednesday

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread monsoon rains across the country from Wednesday June 25, 2025.

In a statement on Monday, the Met Office has predicted the onset of a widespread monsoon spell across various regions of the country starting from June 25, warning of potential flash floods, urban inundation, landslides, and other rain-related hazards.

According to the PMD, “Moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal have already begun to penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan and are likely to intensify over the next couple of days”.

Heavy rainfall

“A strong westerly wave is likely to approach the northern regions on June 25 and may gain significance by June 26, resulting in heavy rainfall activity across most provinces and territories”, the Met Office added.

Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, Punjab is expected to receive rain wind/thundershower with scattered heavy falls (at times very heavy) in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from 25th June to 01st July with occasional gaps, according to the Met Office.

Rain wind/thundershower is likely in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, DG Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from 26th to 28th June, it added.

According to the Met Office, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain wind/thundershower with scattered heavyfalls (at times very heavy) is likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram from 25th June to 01st July with occasional gaps.

Tourists

In Balochistan, rain wind/thundershower is expected in Northeastern/Southern parts (Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kalat, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti and Kohlu) of Balochistan from 25th night to 28th June, the Met Office said.

Rain wind/thundershower is likely in upper and southeast Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin and Karachi) from 25th to 28th June with occasional gaps, the Met Office said.

In addition, heavy rainfall combined with windstorms and lightning could disrupt daily life and cause damage to weak structures such as Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels, according to the Met Office.

Farmers have been advised to manage their agricultural activities considering the rain forecast.

Exercise caution

Tourists and travelers are urged to exercise caution and plan their journeys carefully to avoid any untoward incidents during the period of intense weather activity.

All concerned departments and authorities have been directed to remain on high alert and to take necessary preventive and mitigation measures to safeguard life and property during the forecasted monsoon activity, the Met Office further said.
