ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that there is a risk of flooding in local, seasonal rivers and canals of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galiat, Nowshera, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Balochistan from July 23 to 24.
The PMD issued the latest update on Wednesday and advised citizens to show caution due to likely heavy rain during the period.
Pakistan Met Office has said that monsoon rains persist in most upper parts of the country on Wednesday. In a statement on X, the PMD has predicted that rain-thundershowers are likely today [Wednesday] in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeast Punjab.

The country’s weather agency warned that low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera and Peshawar are likely to be inundated due to expected heavy rains during the forecast period.
Possible landslides
Heavy rains are likely to disrupt traffic movement due to possible landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the PMD warned.
The PMD said that heavy rains, winds and thunderstorms may disrupt daily routines and cause damage to fragile infrastructure.
The public is advised to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas, and follow instructions from local authorities to minimize risk during the forecast period.
According to PMD, in Punjab province, 125 mm of rain has been recorded in Attock, 120 mm rain in Jhelum, 101 mm in Lahore during last 24 hours. The PMD said that Islamabad has received 96 mm rain at Golra, 90 mm at Saidpur, and 62 mm at Airport.
