ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar has said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2024 is a multilateral engagements platform, adding Pakistan is making efforts for regional security, connectivity, economic cooperation and trade between the member nations.
He expressed these remarks during his visit to the Pak-China Friendship Centre on the eve of the SCO Conference 2024. The former PM said that there was an opportunity for Pakistan to hold discussions and meetings with the heads of the participating SCO member nations.
He added that there is also a great opportunity among all the leaders of the participating nations to discuss several challenges in the region. Responding to a question, he said that Pakistan is not just focusing on India as they (Pakistan) have major engagements with the leaders of all member nations especially the Prime Minister of China and Russia.
To another question, the former PM also called the need for activating other regional forums such as SAARC in the interest of regional nations for the connectivity and economic prosperity between the regional countries.
He said that as they see the Western nations have a bond among themselves and they have set up several platforms like the European Union (EU) for cooperation in economy, mutual cultural activities, trade, and therefore such kind of cooperation should also be set up in this region and for which the platforms like SAARC are very significant.
