Pakistan Likely to Sign Staff-Level Agreement with IMF Next Week

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan is likely to sign a staff-level agreement with IMF (International Monetary Fund) next week, reported by a private Television channel here on Monday quoting sources. It said that the officials from IMF were satisfied with the efforts of the government of Pakistan while fulfilling the commitments for the revival of the next tranche of the loan program.

The sources further maintained that the IMF was seen as confident with the commitments of the State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmed. It further maintained that the IMF had given the signal for the staff-level agreement with the incumbent government possibly in the next week.

Requirements of IMF Fulfilled

It is worth noting that the monetary fund was assured of fulfilling the required targets, and the last condition of improvement in the foreign reserves was met with the rollover of a loan from China.

The sources further maintained that the positive signs from the monetary body had minimized Pakistan’s default risk.

Earlier, the agreement was expected to be signed on February 9. However, let Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar claimed the signing of the agreement on February 14; however, it is yet to be finalized.
