PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have been put on high alert after a recent series of attacks on police stations and check posts in different districts of the province over the previous many days.
Inspector General of KP Police Moazzam Jah Ansari, along with district City Police Officer Muhammad Ijaz, visited various police check posts to inspect the security arrangements and the level of alertness.
Personnel asked to wear bulletproof jackets, helmets
The KP police head directed the cops to ensure every officer and constable is wearing bulletproof jackets and helmets as a precautionary measure.
Over 120 police personnel were martyred, and over 125 others were injured in different attacks on the force in KP during the current year. The attacks have accelerated across the KP province for the previous few weeks. The law and order situation in KP has gone worse over the previous few weeks as an increase has been noticed in attacks and threats on armed forces and political personalities.
The latest attack was carried out on a security check post in the limits of the Sarband Police Station in Peshawar in the early hours of Wednesday. No casualty was reported in the attack with weapons on the police post close to the Khyber district’s boundary.
Policemen rushed to the spot and launched the search operation after the attack. The KP police posts in the limits of Sarband have come under attack for the third time in the last five days. Many police stations, check posts, and patrolling parties in the KP have come under attack with grenades, and heavy automatic weapons in the previous months.
KP Police have been put on high alert after attacks in Lakki Marwat and Wana in South Waziristan, and the incident at the center of the Counter-Terrorism Department in Bannu city. The building was cleared by the militants on the third day after a military operation. A source said that apart from the KP police, politicians have complained of receiving threats. The houses of some of them also came under grenade attack.
