ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has kept the price of petrol unchanged while reducing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3 per litre for the next fortnight, according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on Sunday night.
The Finance Division confirmed that petrol will remain at Rs264.61 per litre, the same as earlier this month, while HSD will now be sold at Rs269.99 per litre.
The ministry added that the prices of superior kerosene oil and light diesel oil were also reduced, by Rs1.46 and Rs2.40 per litre respectively, bringing their new prices to Rs176.81 and Rs159.76.
The ministry said the revision followed recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries.
“The government has revised the petroleum product prices for the fortnight starting September 1, in line with the recommendations of Ogra and the concerned ministries,” the Finance Division stated.
Petrol is widely used in small vehicles, rickshaws and motorcycles, and directly affects middle- and lower-income households that rely on it for daily commuting.
Diesel, meanwhile, fuels most of the country’s transport sector, including trucks, buses, trains, and farm machinery such as tractors and tube wells.
On 16 August, the Finance Division cut the price of HSD by Rs12.84 per litre while keeping petrol prices steady. At the same time, kerosene and light diesel were reduced by Rs7.19 and Rs8.20 per litre respectively.
Fuel pricing in Pakistan is reviewed fortnightly, with adjustments linked to global oil prices, currency exchange fluctuations, and taxation policies.
