Pakistan Keen to Upgrade Bilateral Cooperation with Russia: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that Pakistan wanted to upgrade the bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and other economic sectors with Russia.

A delegation led by Russian Energy Minister Nikolay Shulginov called on the prime minister here in Lahore on Thursday.

On the occasion, the premier highlighted the importance Pakistan attached to its ties with the Russian Federation. He recalled his summit meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Samarkand in September last year and said that the meeting had reached key decisions to further consolidate bilateral ties.

Putin on cooperation

The Russian minister agreed with the prime minister and delivered a special message from Putin. In his message, Putin said that Pakistan was an important economic partner of Russia in South Asia and the Muslim world. He said that Russia was keen to further strengthen its relations and cooperation with Pakistan. 

Both leaders agreed on the importance of the energy field for the development of bilateral economic and trade ties.

They also talked about the prospects of supplying Russian gas and oil to Pakistan on a long-term basis. Matters related to gas pipelines also came under discussion.
