ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is keen to deepen cooperation with Saudi Arabia in infrastructure, transport, and logistics, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said during a meeting with Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Aljasser on Tuesday.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025) in Karachi.

Abdul Aleem Khan briefed the Saudi Minister on Pakistan’s expanding road network and highlighted investment opportunities in major national projects. He noted that the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) between the two nations has strengthened bilateral ties, providing a framework for broader cooperation across multiple sectors.

The Federal Minister underlined Pakistan’s self-sustaining and efficient road infrastructure, supported by a robust toll system, a contribution to maintenance and development. He outlined ongoing and upcoming motorway projects linking northern regions with major urban and economic centres, aimed at enhancing regional trade and connectivity.

Aleem Khan invited Saudi investment in key infrastructure initiatives, including the M-6 Motorway (Sukkur–Hyderabad), M-10 Motorway (Hyderabad–Karachi Port), M-13 Motorway (Kharian–Rawalpindi), and the Mansehra–Naran–Jalkhad–Chilas (MNJC) Road, highlighting the MNJC project’s tourism potential and commercial viability.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share time-tested brotherly relations, emphasising the potential to expand infrastructure cooperation under this partnership. The Saudi Minister requested Pakistan’s support in the upcoming International Maritime Organisation elections, which Pakistan assured, and extended an invitation for Aleem Khan to visit Saudi Arabia.

Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Aljasser appreciated Pakistan’s development initiatives and expressed gratitude for its ongoing support. He also offered Saudi assistance in technology, road safety, and logistics projects to further bilateral collaboration.
