ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kazakhstan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across regional and multilateral fora.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Murat Nurtleu on the margins of the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin, China, on Tuesday.

“Had an engaging discussion with my Kazakh counterpart, Brother Murat Nurtleu, on the margin of the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping,” Ishaq Dar said in a post on X.

“We reaffirmed our resolve to deepen Pak-Kazakh bilateral ties and to expand collaboration across regional and multilateral forums,” he added.

It may be recalled that the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev visited Pakistan in April this year to attend the 13th Session of the Pak-Kazakhstan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation in Islamabad.

During the session, both countries had agreed upon the finalisation of the Transit Trade Agreement and the practical implementation of the Roadmap for Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a meeting with the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Marat Karabayev, had emphasised the need to start work on the feasibility study for establishing a rail link between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said the rail link between Pakistan and Kazakhstan will prove to be a game changer for the entire region, connecting Central Asian states with Gwadar Port.

Dar meets Chinese President

Earlier today, the Deputy Prime Minister met with Chinese President Xi Jinping as he represented Pakistan in a joint call of the foreign ministers of the SCO member states.

The SCO is a 10-nation Eurasian security and political grouping whose members include China, Russia, Pakistan, India, and Iran.

The group’s foreign ministers meet as a precursor to the annual summit of its leaders, which will be hosted by China this autumn in Tianjin.

In a post on X, Ishaq Dar said he was “delighted” to meet with Xi at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing before the SCO meeting and conveyed the “warm greetings of the leadership, government and people of Pakistan”.

“As iron-clad brothers and all-weather strategic cooperative partners, we remain committed to deepening Pak-China enduring friendship and advancing shared regional goals,” he posted on X.
