ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Staff Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has held talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II during which the two sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in defence and security sectors, a military statement said on Monday.
According to the press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the meeting in Amman, the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, placing special emphasis on strengthening bilateral cooperation in defence and security and sharing views on regional developments.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) conveyed warm regards from the people, government, and Armed Forces of Pakistan to the Jordanian King and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening fraternal ties with Jordan.
King Abdullah II acknowledged the professionalism and contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces to regional peace and stability and expressed his intention to further enhance defence collaboration between the two brotherly nations.
Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II was also present during the meeting.
Earlier, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also called on the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Huneiti, at the General Headquarters, Amman.
The Field Marshal was warmly welcomed and presented with a Guard of Honour at his arrival at the General Headquarters.
During the visit, both dignitaries reaffirmed the deep-rooted and historic ties between the Armed Forces of Pakistan and Jordan. Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Huneiti also acknowledged the Pakistan Armed Forces’ remarkable contributions towards peace and regional security.
The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s ambassador to Amman, the military attaché, and senior officials, signaling a powerful new chapter in Pakistan-Jordan defense relations.
It may be recalled that last month, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with King Abdullah II on the sidelines of the Emergency Arab–Islamic Summit in Doha.
He commended King Abdullah II for his unwavering leadership on the Palestinian cause.
Both leaders emphasised the urgent need for Muslim unity in confronting Israel’s hostile actions and agreed to maintain close consultations to mobilise international support for peace and stability in the region.
