Pakistan, Japan Ink Agreement to Bolster HRD Scholarship Programme

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Japan have signed a grant agreement valued at $2.63 million to strengthen the Human Resource Development (HRD) Scholarship Programme 2025.

Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi signed the Record of Discussions Exchange of Notes at a ceremony held in Islamabad on Tuesday, Radio Pakistan reported.

This partnership aims to enhance educational and professional development opportunities for Pakistani scholars, further deepening bilateral cooperation in human capital development.

Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has extended a generous grant to Pakistan, marking the eighth instalment of the initiative since its launch in 2018.

Under the 2025 programme, the grant will fund sixteen scholarships for Master’s degrees and one for a PhD at leading Japanese universities.

These opportunities are specifically aimed at young officers from Pakistan’s Federal Civil Service and Ex-Cadre services, supporting their advanced education and professional growth.

In his remarks, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi, and JICA Chief Representative Naoaki Miyata, assured of their commitment to work closely with the Government of Pakistan to further strengthen the friendly ties and bilateral cooperation.
