ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Italian Cricket Federation (FCRI), forging a new era of sports diplomacy and international cricket collaboration between the two nations.
The agreement was formally signed by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed and FCRI President Madame Maria Lorena Haz Paz, marking what officials described as a “historic step” toward developing cricket in emerging markets.
Under the partnership, the PCB and FCRI will work closely to strengthen men’s and women’s cricket structures in Italy, particularly as the Italian national team prepares for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The MoU lays out a detailed roadmap focused on technical expertise, infrastructure development and competitive exposure.
Key areas of cooperation include the exchange of technical and coaching experts, joint training and development programmes, specialised camps and seminars, and the organisation of friendly matches and bilateral tournaments at multiple levels. The PCB will also extend support for Italy’s youth cricket initiatives and facility enhancement projects.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PCB COO Sumair Ahmad Syed said the collaboration reflects Pakistan’s commitment to contributing to cricket’s global expansion. He noted that the partnership will deepen both sporting and cultural ties between Pakistan and Italy.
FCRI President Maria Lorena Haz Paz hailed the agreement as a major boost to Italy’s long-term cricketing ambitions. She added that the federation is actively pursuing more international collaborations to fast-track the sport’s growth across the country.
The PCB expressed confidence that the partnership will foster meaningful opportunities for players, coaches and fans in both nations, setting the stage for a sustained and mutually beneficial relationship.
