Pakistan Issues Urban Flooding Alert for Punjab Province

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned about likely urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore divisions in next 24 hours.

PMD issued the latest alert on Wednesday as warning, “Urban flooding is expected in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore division in next 24 hours”.

Flash flooding

The PMD alert said, “Flash flooding is also expected in hill torrents of DG Khan divisions along with tributaries of river Kabul during 24 hours”.

It added that low to medium level flows are likely to continue in rivers Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum during the next 24 hours.

Level of reservoirs

The PMD also issued updates about the latest level of reservoirs on Wednesday and said that ongoing monsoon rains in the upper parts of Pakistan continue to replenish water reservoirs.

Earlier, PMD has said that monsoon rains persist in most upper parts of the country today.  In an alert on X, the PMD has predicted that rain-thundershowers are likely today [Wednesday] in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeast Punjab.
