Pakistan Issues 3,000 Visas to Sikh pilgrims

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday issued 3,000 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India so that they could participate in the 554th birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji scheduled to be held in Pakistan from November 25 to December 4.

According to a press release issued by the high commission the pilgrims would visit Dera Sahib, Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib.

Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in India Aizaz Khan expressing his views on the occasion, extended his heartfelt felicitations to the pilgrims and wished them a safe journey.

The development comes under the framework of the Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974.

Every year, a large number of Sikh pilgrims from India visit Pakistan to celebrate various religious festivals and occasions.

Earlier this month Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar ordered the relevant authorities to provide maximum facilities to the Sikh Yatrees interested to attend their religious festivals in Pakistan.

The prime minister, while chairing a meeting to review the visa facilities provided to the Sikh pilgrims s by the Government of Pakistan, said the Sikh pilgrims coming to the country to visit their holy places were the guests in Pakistan.
