ISLAMABAD: Iraq Ambassador to Pakistan Hamid Abbas Lafta reiterated the commitment to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations between the two nations. He emphasized the potential of trade through Gwadar and Basra seaports to elevate their ties.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) led by President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, Ambassador Lafta highlighted the vast expertise of Pakistani manpower in the agriculture, medical, and petrochemical sectors in Iraq. He emphasized the strong ties in trade, economy, and defense.
The envoy noted the harmonious regional and international cooperation between Pakistan and Iraq, pointing out Iraq’s robust economy with an annual budget exceeding $110 billion. He encouraged the chambers of commerce from both sides to play a pivotal role in enhancing trade relations.
Ambassador Lafta urged Pakistani businessmen to explore investment opportunities outlined in Iraq’s national action plan. He assured full support from the Embassy to promote trade and investment relations.
President ICCI Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari highlighted the untapped trade potential between Pakistan and Iraq and proposed measures to overcome obstacles hindering bilateral trade growth. He emphasized the tourism potential in Pakistan, particularly in the northern areas, suggesting Iraq also explore this opportunity.
The ICCI plans to participate in a Trade Exhibition in Najaf in June to showcase Pakistani products, aiming to boost business ties. Ahsan Zafar reaffirmed ICCI’s dedication to fostering business relations.
Secretary General UBG Zafar Bakhatwari expressed optimism about the Ambassador’s role in advancing bilateral ties, highlighting his dynamic leadership.
