Tianjin, China: Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Council of Heads of Member States (CHM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin on Monday, reaffirming their countries’ shared commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.
The high-level meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and senior federal ministers.
During the talks, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s “historic and brotherly” relationship with neighboring Iran, highlighting the deep cultural, historical, and religious connections between the two countries.
“The relationship is rooted in shared values and a common vision for regional stability and prosperity,” said Sharif.
Both leaders reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in diplomatic and economic engagement.
Focus on Economic and Political Engagement
Prime Minister Sharif underlined the need to further strengthen political and economic relations, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Referring to Iranian President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan in August 2025, Sharif described the trip as “instrumental” in deepening bilateral ties. “The Pakistani people were delighted to receive the Iranian President, and the visit significantly boosted mutual understanding and goodwill,” he added.
Solidarity in Times of Crisis
President Pezeshkian expressed sympathy over the devastation caused by ongoing floods in Pakistan, extending condolences on behalf of the Iranian people.
“The Government and people of Iran stand shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in this time of need,” Pezeshkian said.
In response, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to regional peace, advocating dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path toward de-escalation and long-term stability.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism for future engagement and cooperation, particularly within the framework of regional organizations such as the SCO.
