ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in trade, connectivity, and people-to-people ties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a phone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Iran, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Sunday.

Both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation across various sectors and exchanged views on regional developments. They also reaffirmed and reiterated their resolve to work closely together for regional peace and development.

It may be recalled that earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the International Year of Peace and Trust summit in Ashgabat.

Iran and Pakistan share a 900-kilometre porous border, which they aim to develop as a channel for enhancing transport and energy cooperation.

The two countries have already reached an agreement to revive the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) freight train service this year, in a move aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating cross-border trade between the two nations.

Islamabad and Tehran have also voiced their desire in recent months to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion.
