ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Monday received Indonesian Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin (Retd) and explored avenues for enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, a military statement said.
During the meeting at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the two sides also discussed matters of mutual interest, evolving regional and global security dynamics, Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated in a press release.
“Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening institutional linkages, training collaboration, and defence industrial cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia,” ISPR said.
Lieutenant General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin (Retd) praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
He also expressed Indonesia’s desire to further expand defence ties with Pakistan across multiple domains.
The Chief of Defence Forces reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering a strong and enduring defence relationship with Indonesia, based on shared values, mutual respect, and convergence of strategic interests.
It may be recalled that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited Pakistan in December last year and held a meeting with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to discuss regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.
Pakistan and Indonesia share historically strong diplomatic and economic ties, dating back to Indonesia’s early recognition of Pakistan in 1947.
Both countries maintain close cooperation at regional and global forums, including the OIC, ASEAN-related engagements, and various multilateral initiatives.
Pakistan and Indonesia also work together on trade, investment, counter-terrorism, and humanitarian efforts, particularly in conflict-affected regions like Gaza and Somalia.
