ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Energy Ministry is set to organize the Petroleum Conference 2024 on Tuesday at a local hotel in the federal capital, Islamabad. The Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, will be the chief guest at the event.
Esteemed industry leaders, experts, and government stakeholders will convene to address challenges, discuss trends, and explore policy initiatives in the petroleum sector.
The press release mentioned that the conference is expected to attract international delegates, government officials, policymakers, regulators, and investors from the Energy & Petroleum (E&P) Sector.
Pakistan’s petroleum sector is grappling with insufficient investment, leading to a decline in indigenous production and a surge in the energy import bill. With approximately 85% of oil consumption relying on imports and 25% of gas imported as LNG, the current account bears a substantial burden.
The press release further said that the Petroleum Conference 2024 aims to provide a platform for networking and building connections among professionals, researchers, and decision-makers. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with industry experts, explore potential collaborations, and stay abreast of the latest developments in the sector.
Building on the Ministry’s initiative of hosting two focused workshops involving all petroleum exploration and production companies in Pakistan, the conference serves as a continuation of these efforts.
These workshops facilitated meaningful interactions among stakeholders, aiming to address issues and stimulate investment in the industry. Through extensive consultations, the Ministry identified policy and regulatory changes crucial for the E&P Sector in Pakistan.
The Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy plans to present policy initiatives during this conference, fostering collaboration among stakeholders. The ministry will also propose recommendations, seeking support to address critical issues and explore opportunities for synergy.
