Pakistan Higher Education Expo Attracts Students, Faculty in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: Higher Education Commission, in collaboration with Pakistan High Commission in Colombo, held a 3-day Higher Education Expo at Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Thirteen Pakistani public sector universities participated in the Expo and outreached students from the colleges and universities as well as parents in Sri Lanka.

HEC officials, led by Project Director HEC Jehanzeb Khan, arranged 2  seminars to create awareness about higher education opportunities in Pakistan for Sri Lankan students.

Students and faculty members asked different queries about the scholarship program between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the education system of Pakistan, and the facilities for international students.

High commissioner lauds Expo

Major General (R) Umar Farooq Burki, High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, participated in the event and lauded the arrangements made by HEC at the Expo venue.

The Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Program (PSHECO) offers scholarships to Sri Lankan students, faculty and students exchange opportunities, and professional training for Sri Lankan Government servants, in addition to efforts for increased collaboration through higher education seminars and establishment of a Centre of Asian Civilisation in Sri Lanka.

HEC, under the Allama Iqbal Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students (BS/MS/Ph.D.), provides them with opportunities to study at the top universities in Pakistan.

Under the program, 800 fully-funded and two hundred partially-funded scholarships will be offered to students from Sri Lanka from undergraduate to doctoral levels.

So far, 330 fully-funded scholarships have been given; out of them, eleven scholarship recipients have completed their final degrees and are now serving in Sri Lanka.
