ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday said Islamabad deeply values US President Donald Trump and his team’s engagement with Arab-Islamic leaders to halt the suffering in Gaza through an immediate ceasefire.

In a post on his X handle, Deputy PM Dar said Pakistan remains firmly committed to working alongside brotherly countries and the United States to advance these shared goals and to support a just and lasting peace for the Palestinian people with the goal of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine.

“Pakistan is grateful to our brothers from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, and Indonesia for our joint efforts through several rounds of deliberations at UNGA before and after the meeting with our leadership and President Donald Trump, that brought us to the attached Joint Statement,” he noted.

“We deeply value US President and his team’s focused engagement with Arab-Islamic leaders to help end the suffering in Gaza through an immediate ceasefire, unhindered flow of humanitarian aid, and by opening a path towards peace and reconstruction,” Ishaq Dar said.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday backed President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end Israel’s war on Gaza, praising his leadership for efforts to bring an end to the nearly two-year-long Israeli onslaught.

Trump presented the peace plan for Gaza and the Middle East during his meeting with leaders of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, Indonesia, and other Muslim states last week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

The meeting came in the backdrop of Israel’s ramping up of its military operations in Gaza, where it has killed over 65,000 people since October 2023.
