ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has announced significant relief for medical and dental postgraduate students and degree holders admitted before January 16, 2023, easing registration requirements for thousands of professionals across the country.

During its council meeting held on January 7, 2026, the regulator decided that all cases of students admitted – or those who completed their degrees – up to January 16, 2023, will be registered after the formal award of their qualifications by PM&DC, according to a statement released on Sunday.

The move is seen as a major step toward resolving long-standing registration concerns affecting postgraduate doctors and dentists. However, for students admitted after January 16, 2023, stricter requirements will apply.

Their degree-awarding institutions must be officially recognized by PM&DC, and their training centers must be accredited under Section 25 of the PM&DC Act 2022.

The relief applies to a wide range of advanced qualifications, including MS, MD, MDS, MPhil, PhD, FCPS, MCPS, and various diploma programs obtained from Pakistani universities, medical institutions, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).

PM&DC has directed all eligible candidates to complete their registration process in line with the prescribed procedures.

The decision is expected to provide clarity and legal protection to postgraduate medical professionals, while reinforcing regulatory standards for future admissions.
