ISLAMABAD: The committee constituted by the Pakistan government to decide on the cricket team’s tour to India for the World Cup has given the go-ahead, subject to foolproof security arrangements provided by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
A meeting of the committee, chaired by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, deliberated on the pros and cons of the Pakistani team’s participation in the upcoming World Cup in India.
According to local media reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has agreed to send the team to India but with a condition that the ICC ensures foolproof security for the Pakistan team during the high-profile event.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Information Minister Marrriyum Aurangzeb, and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar supported sending the team to India on the condition of adequate security assurances from the international cricket body.
Opposition to Idea of Sending Pakistan Cricket Team to India
However, local media reporter that Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsanur Rehman Mazari and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira opposed the idea of sending the Pakistan team to India for the World Cup.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf will be responsible for informing the ICC about the government’s decision. The ICC’s assurance of foolproof security will be crucial in finalizing Pakistan’s participation in the high-stakes cricket tournament to be held in India.
