ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government extended legal and financial assistance amounting to Rs21.9 million ($77,600) to its overseas citizens in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates during the first quarter of 2025.
According to official news agency, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), a total of Rs49.2 million ($174,358) in legal and financial aid was provided to Pakistanis living abroad across various countries during the first three months of 2025.
The report stated that Community Welfare Attachés (CWAs), appointed by the government in different nations, facilitated this support, particularly in matters concerning death compensation, the recovery of outstanding payments, and the resolution of claims.
Distressed families
The government disbursed $174,358 in financial and legal support to overseas Pakistanis in the first quarter of 2025, offering vital help to distressed families and assisting with the repatriation of deceased individuals.
A major portion of this aid was channelled through the Pakistan Community Welfare and Benevolent Fund (PCWBF), which functions as the primary mechanism for delivering such relief.
“In Saudi Arabia, financial and legal support worth more than Rs1.9 [$6,730] million was extended to families of deceased workers, covering recovery of dues and transportation expenses,” APP reported.
Extending financial support
“The UAE missions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi together provided over Rs 20 million [$70,891], handling more than 250 death-related cases,” it added.
The report mentioned that Pakistan’s government extended financial support exceeding Rs10 million ($35,454) to bereaved families in Malaysia, while around Rs1.9 million ($6,730) was allocated in Doha for similar needs.
“Other countries, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Spain, Italy, and South Korea, also extended significant financial support through their respective missions,” it said.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE remain among the most popular destinations for Pakistani migrant workers. These two Gulf nations are also the leading contributors of foreign remittances to Pakistan, home to millions of expatriate Pakistanis.
