ISLAMABAD: During the first month of the current fiscal year (2023-24), Pakistan generated US $70.969 million from various transport services in different countries.
This figure represents a 5.32 percent decrease compared to the $74.960 million earned in the same period during the previous fiscal year (2022-23), as reported by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
In this period, the export of sea transport services experienced a significant decline of 50.95 percent, dropping from $19.960 million in the previous year to $9.790 million.
Within the category of sea transport services, exports of freight services saw a substantial decrease of 70.32 percent, going from $13.510 million to $4.010 million. Additionally, exports of other sea transport services decreased by 10.39 percent, from $6.450 million to $5.780 million.
On the other hand, exports of air transport services increased by 7.43 percent, rising from $53.120 million in the previous year to $57.069 million in July 2023. Within air transport services, exports of passenger services increased by 2.97 percent, from $34.990 million to $36.030 million.
However, exports of freight services declined by 36.47 percent, from $3.290 million to $2.090 million. Exports of other air transport services showed a significant increase of 27.69 percent, rising from $14.840 million to $18.949 million.
Meanwhile, exports of road transport services during the same period witnessed substantial growth, with a remarkable increase of 181.06 percent, going from $1.320 million to $3.710 million.
Within road transport services, exports of freight services remained unchanged, while exports of postal and courier services decreased by 28.57 percent, from $0.560 million to $0.400 million. —APP
