Prime Minister Office Media Wing said in a press statement that Prime Minister Kakar expressed these remarks during a meeting with the Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates and discussed polio eradication, nutrition, gender equality, and financial inclusion, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. Kakar hoped that stopping poliovirus transmission in the country remained possible in the current year.
On the occasion, Bill Gates said that polio eradication in Pakistan was a top priority, with special interest in stopping cross-border transmission with Afghanistan and continuing the vaccination drive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He hoped that the National Emergency Operations Centre and the caretaker government of Pakistan would continue efforts to stop poliovirus transmission in the South Asian country.
Kakar and Gates discussed how improvements across these priorities help enhance gender equality efforts, ensuring that girls and women could prioritize their finances, health, and futures, and be leaders in society.
