ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Jalil Abbas Jilani will attend the urgent open-ended Ministerial Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee to be held on October 18, in Jeddah, a foreign ministry statement said on Tuesday.

It said the meeting has been convened by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss the crisis in Gaza and the humanitarian situation of the besieged civilians in the area.

Jilani to present Pakistan’s serious concerns on Gaza situation

Foreign Minister Jilani will express Pakistan’s serious concerns about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza at the meeting and emphasize the urgent need for ceasefire, lifting of the blockade and provision of relief assistance to the people of Gaza.

The Foreign Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other OIC member states on the sidelines of the OIC meeting.

The meeting has been called at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which currently chairs the Islamic Summit and the Executive Committee of the OIC.

Meanwhile the UNSC rejected a Russian-backed resolution on Monday night that denounced violence against the civilian population in Gaza. The resolution also called for a humanitarian ceasefire in the conflict between Palestinians and Israel, Western media reported.

Israel is also preparing for a ground offensive in Gaza while subjecting the enclave to the most intense bombing ever, putting Gaza under complete blockade. Gaza authorities said that more than 2,750 people have been martyred by Israeli airstrikes.
