ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has urged stronger corporate philanthropy to reinforce what he described as Pakistan’s “moral economy,” calling for greater transparency and wider participation in social investment.

Speaking at the launch of the Corporate Philanthropy Report 2024, organised by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP), he said philanthropy remains a defining national trait, with Pakistan ranking 17th in the World Giving Index.

He noted that Karachi continues to lead the country’s charitable ecosystem and would rank among the top global cities for philanthropic activity if international comparisons were compiled.

Aurangzeb said corporate giving has stayed resilient, with over 300 listed firms undertaking CSR work. He encouraged all companies to disclose their contributions, arguing that transparency strengthens public trust and encourages broader participation.

He praised PCP for improving certification standards and acknowledged its role in shaping a more structured philanthropic environment.

He also paid tribute to Zafar Khan for his leadership and integrity in advancing institutional philanthropy.

The minister linked philanthropy to wider government reforms, highlighting the shift toward results-based financing through the Prime Minister’s Social Impact Financing Framework.

He announced that Pakistan’s first Skills Impact Bond—developed with the British Asian Trust and implemented via NAVTTC—will be launched soon to support skills development through sustainable financing channels.

Aurangzeb congratulated the award recipients and reaffirmed government support for frameworks that promote responsible giving.
