Pakistan Eyes Export Target of US$ 100 Bn in Next 5 Years

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce and Interior, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, on Wednesday, said that the government anticipated taking the country’s exports to US$ 100 billion in the next 5 years and stressed the business community to play an active role in achieving the proposed target. 

While talking to a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), led by Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICC, the federal minister said that Pakistan is required to increase its exports for economic progress, adding that the role of the private sector would be crucial in this regard while focusing on diversification of exports to achieve better results for the country’s economy. 

Gohar Ijaz further said that it would be a bonus if the business community keeps proper liaison with the government to accelerate the economic development of the country. The minister assured complete cooperation in resolving the key issues of the business community to facilitate the promotion of business in the country. 

ICCI Officials Seeks Assistance for Better Export

In his address, President ICCI, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, said that they planned to establish an Expo Centre and a new Industrial Estate in the region and sought assistance from the government in the completion of the planned projects. He also requested ICCI’s representation in the Export Development Fund and the establishment of a Facilitation Desk of Passport Office at ICCI with a specific immigration counter at airports for the taxpayers. 

Senior Vice President ICCI, Faad Waheed, in his remarks, demanded that the government introduce a special package to the SMEs and the industry in the upcoming fiscal budget for better growth in the relevant sectors.
