Pakistan Expresses Gratitude to International Financial Institutions for Support

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, extended thanks to International Financial Institutions (IFIs) during an event hosted at Pakistan House in honor of friends of Pakistan from organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), International Finance Corporation, World Bank, and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.

Ambassador Masood Khan expressed gratitude for the steadfast support provided by IFIs during a challenging economic period, acknowledging their role in helping Pakistan navigate through difficulties. He highlighted the past year as particularly arduous but noted that the country had undergone a challenging transition and was now moving toward a new phase of stability.

Emphasizing the digitization of Pakistan’s economy, the Ambassador underscored the creation of new opportunities for the country’s youth and professionals. He commended Pakistani professionals working in IFIs, stating that they have showcased their capabilities and brought pride to the nation through their accomplishments.

IMF Mission Chief to Pakistan, Nathan Porter, expressed satisfaction over the recently concluded staff-level agreement. He noted that the actions and policies of the current government reflected a commitment to steering the country toward stabilization. Porter expressed hope for building on these efforts and advancing reforms to create a stronger, prosperous, and inclusive Pakistan.

Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at IMF, Athanasios Arvanitis, expressed optimism that upcoming elections in Pakistan would usher in a new beginning, fostering the reform process necessary for the country to address structural issues and make progress.

Executive Director of IMF, Bahador Bijani, highlighted Pakistan’s bright future, considering it one of the most important countries regionally and globally. He conveyed confidence in Pakistan’s potential for progress and prosperity.

During the event, other officials from the IMF, including Advisor Mission Chief UK European Department Syed Ali Abbas, Aftab Qureshi, and Ms. Sidra Rehman, also shared their perspectives on Pakistan’s economic outlook and the collaborative efforts toward its development.
