Pakistan Exported Rice Valuing $1.638b During First Half of Current FY

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports of rice during the first half of the current financial year grew by 76.53% as compared to the exports of the same period of last year.

During the period from July-December, 2023 more than 2.570 million metric tons of rice valued at 1.638 billion dollars were exported as compared to the exports of 1.732 million metric tons costing 927.918 million dollars in the same period of last year, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Meanwhile, the exports of Basmati rice went up by 30.03% as over 318,224 metric tons of Basmati Rice worth 367.393 million dollars were exported as compared to the exports of 286,577 metric tons valued at 282.538 million dollars of the corresponding period of last year, it added.

On the other side, 2.252 million metric tons of rice of other verities valued at 1.270 million dollars were also exported during the first half of the current fiscal year as compared to the exported of 1.464 million metric tons worth 645.380 million dollars of the same period of last year.

Pakistan’s food exports

During the period under review, the food group exports from Pakistan surged by 49.84% as compared to the exports of the same period of last year as food commodities valued at 3.481 billion dollars were exported as against the exports of 2.323 billion dollars of the same period of the last year.

On the other hand, the food group imports into Pakistan during the first two quarters of the current fiscal year dropped by 19.48% and recorded at 3.957 billion dollars as compared to the imports of 4.914 billion dollars of the corresponding period of last year.
