ISLAMABAD: Pakistan exported food commodities valued over 4.277 billion dollars during ten months of the current financial year compared to the exports of 4.457 billion dollars during the corresponding period of last year.
From July to April 2022-23, the exports of food groups from Pakistan decreased by 4.04% compared to the corresponding period of last year, the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday.
In the last ten months, the commodities’ exports that observed negative growth in their respective exports included rice at 11.17%as recorded at 1.822 billion dollars compared the 2.051 billion dollars, fruits and vegetables at 43.46% and 2.49% and registered at 232.700 million dollars and 261.980 million dollars against the exports of 411.558 million dollars and 268.666 million dollars of the same corresponding period last year.
The export of food items, which witnessed an increase, included fish and fish preparations by 16.22% as fish and fish products valuing 406.090 million dollars were exported compared to the exports of 349.429 million dollars.
Pakistan’s tobacco exports
Meanwhile, tobacco worth 55.970 million dollars was also exported, compared to 44.295 million dollars in the same period last year. Tobacco exports posted a nearly 26.36% increase compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last year.
The exports of sugar from Pakistan witnessed about a 100% increase as nearly 212,896 metric tons of sugar valued at 103.210 million dollars were exported.
On the other hand, food group imports grew by 0.19%, recorded at 7.762 billion dollars as compared to the imports of 7.747 billion dollars in the corresponding period last year.
