Pakistan-EU Hold Ninth Round of Political Dialogue Focusing on Trade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the European Union in their ninth round of Political Dialogue have covered the entire spectrum of bilateral ties encompassing all areas of common interest with a focus on trade and Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP).

A statement by the foreign ministry on Wednesday said development cooperation, security, climate action, migration and mobility also came under discussion.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi while Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Enrique Mora led the EU side at the dialogue held in Islamabad.

The two sides expressing satisfaction over the positive trajectory of the relations, agreed to continue working towards further strengthening Pakistan-EU bilateral ties in all areas of common interest by regularly holding meetings of institutional mechanisms and aking follow-up actions.

Highlighting the importance of Pakistan-EU bilateral relationship, the two sides agreed to hold regular high-level interactions and underlined the necessity for close cooperation and dialogue amid rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

The Foreign Secretary acknowledging GSP Plus as a successful template of trade for development and mutually beneficial partnership, underlined the need for enhancing collaboration with key stakeholders on both sides to bring sustainability and diversification in trade ties between Pakistan and the European Union.

The two sides agreed to explore new avenues of cooperation under the EU’s flagship programs like Horizon Europe and Global Gateway Strategy.
