Pakistan Envoy Visits China’s Inner Mongolia, Gansu Provinces to Boost Cooperation

The envoy expresses interest in aligning Chinese expertise with Pakistan's development goals

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi has concluded a productive visit to Inner Mongolia and Gansu provinces aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, education, and cultural exchange.

During his tour, the ambassador met with senior provincial leaders, including Hu Changsheng, CPC Secretary of Gansu, and Ms. Wang Lixia, Governor of Inner Mongolia, to discuss strengthening government-to-government, business-to-business, and people-to-people ties.

The ambassador visited the Inner Mongolia Museum during his visit to Hohhot. “Truly breathtaking exhibits bringing the region’s fascinating history & unique nomadic culture to life. Grateful for the insightful tour. Moments like this deepen our appreciation for China’s diversity and strengthen the bonds of Pakistan-China brotherhood,” he said.

He met with Ms. Wang Lixia, Governor of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and explored new opportunities between Pakistan and Inner Mongolia in renewable energy, livestock, and people-to-people ties.

He paid a visit to Honder College of Arts and Sciences in Inner Mongolia and met its President, Mr. Zhou Yushu, to further deepen academic and cultural ties, especially in light of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China next year.

“Agriculture remains a top priority – particularly in irrigation techniques, rain-fed farming and livestock development,” the envoy emphasised.

The ambassador visited Yili liquid milk and milk powder factory, and the product display and experience centre.

“I was briefed on its wide-ranging operations, product lines, and distribution network. Yili is a leading dairy company of China, based in this vibrant region of Inner Mongolia. We discussed ways to join hands for mutually beneficial cooperation in the dairy field,” he said on X.

He also visited the head office of Mengcao (M-Grass), company, a success story in ecological restoration.

“From desertified wastelands to thriving grasslands, their native seed banks and ‘grass grid” systems are revolutionising land rehabilitation. A critical innovation for regions battling climate change.  Discussed collaboration with Mengcao to adapt these solutions for our arid regions, advancing food security and green initiatives,” he said in a post on X.

“Deeply moved to see “Masood Khan Hall”, a tribute to one of my predecessors’ legacy and enduring Pakistan-China friendship. Fascinating tour of the Rock Art Research Center showcasing in-depth research in cultural heritage. Grateful for the warm reception,” he said.

He toured the Lanzhou New Area and Jinchuan Science Park, in Gansu, where he observed cutting-edge advancements in industrial innovation and sustainable technology, expressing interest in aligning such expertise with Pakistan’s development goals under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In the education sector, the ambassador praised the scale and quality of Gansu Vocational Education Park and visited Lanzhou University, where over 200 Pakistani students are currently enrolled. He welcomed the university’s plans to expand research collaboration, particularly in areas that could benefit smallholder farmers in Pakistan.
