ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and promoting regional security during the third round of Defence and Security Talks held in Cairo, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Thursday.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), led Pakistan’s delegation during his official visit to Egypt, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The CJCSC held meetings with top Egyptian leadership, including President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and key military and religious figures.
During his engagements, General Mirza held detailed discussions with General Abdel Mageed Ahmed Abdel Mageed Saqr, Minister of Defence and Military Production, Admiral Osama Mounier Mohamed Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.
The discussions centred on strengthening military-to-military relations, joint training initiatives, counter-terrorism efforts, and tackling regional security challenges. Both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding defence cooperation and enhancing strategic dialogue.
During a significant meeting with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, General Mirza highlighted the importance of religious harmony and interfaith dialogue in fostering tolerance and addressing the underlying causes of extremism and terrorism.
Egyptian leaders commended the professionalism and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces, particularly in their efforts to combat terrorism.
Upon his arrival at the Egyptian Ministry of Defence, General Mirza was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by a contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
