ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation on Saturday with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty to discuss regional developments, with a particular focus on Gaza.

During the phone conversation, the Egyptian foreign minister conveyed his condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, the Foreign Office said in a statement. He condemned the terror attacks and mourned the loss of lives.

Ishaq Dar thanked Egypt for its solidarity and said Pakistan valued Cairo’s support during a difficult time.

Gaza peace efforts

The two sides exchanged views on the Middle East, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ongoing peace efforts. They discussed broader regional security challenges and stressed the need for peaceful solutions through sustained diplomacy.

Both sides underscored the importance of continued coordination between Pakistan and Egypt on key regional and global issues. They agreed that counter-terrorism cooperation remained essential for regional stability.

Dr Abdelatty highlighted the importance of high-level engagement and expressed his wish to visit Pakistan at the earliest opportunity. Dar welcomed the prospect of a visit and said it would help deepen cooperation on regional peace efforts.

Support for Gaza peace plan

The call came a day after Pakistan joined several Muslim and Arab states in supporting a US drafted resolution at the UN Security Council aimed at deploying an international stabilisation force in Gaza.

A joint statement issued at UN Headquarters included Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Jordan, Turkiye and the United States.

It said the resolution endorses the “historic Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict”, announced on 29 September and backed during meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The statement described the plan as a “sincere effort” that offers a viable path towards peace and stability. It said the process provides a pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood. The endorsers expressed hope for the resolution’s swift adoption.

The United States earlier urged the Security Council to endorse the draft resolution, warning that the ceasefire in Gaza remains “fragile” and requires international support.
