ISMAILIA, Egypt: Pakistan’s men’s hockey team delivered a commanding performance on Monday, defeating Malaysia 5-3 in their second match of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup Qualifier in Ismailia, Egypt, to secure a place in the tournament semi-finals.
According to a press release issued by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the national side combined attacking flair with disciplined structure to overcome a competitive Malaysian outfit in a high-scoring encounter.
Five different scorers power Pakistan to victory
The goals came from multiple sources, highlighting Pakistan’s balanced attacking threat. Rana Waheed Ashraf, Zakariya Hayat, Ahmed Nadeem, Muhammad Sufyan Khan, and Muhammad Ammar each found the back of the net once, ensuring Pakistan maintained a comfortable edge throughout the contest.
For Malaysia, Abdul Rauf, Ahkamullah, and Fitri Saari scored one goal apiece, but their individual efforts could not prevent Pakistan from clinching victory and confirming their berth in the last four.
The match witnessed swift exchanges and attacking hockey from both sides, with Pakistan demonstrating superior control during crucial moments to seal the five-goal tally.

Hockey fraternity lauds Team performance
President PHF Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani extended congratulations to the national team on their commendable performance and semifinal qualification.
He was joined by Chairmen of the Ad-hoc Governance and Management Committee, Olympian Islahuddin Siddiqui and Olympian Hassan Sardar, along with Chief Selector Samiullah Khan, in praising the squad’s achievement.
The victory keeps Pakistan’s campaign for FIH World Cup qualification firmly on track as they continue their impressive run in the qualifier round.
Austria clash awaits
Pakistan will now face Austria in their third and final group match on Wednesday as they look to maintain momentum heading into the knockout stage.
The team will aim to carry forward their attacking form and secure a top position in the group standings before the semi-final showdown.
