ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday dispatched relief assistance through a special Chartered Flight of PIA to Syria to the quake-hit Syria.
Several Pakistan officials, including Federal Minister for Education Rana Tanveer Hussain, Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider, and Syrian Ambassador, Dr. Ramez AlRaee, attended the assistance package dispatching ceremony at the Islamabad International Airport.
In a news release, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said this tranche was part of the Prime Minister’s announced assistance for earthquake affectees in Syria and Turkiye.
It comprised 2,600 blankets and 270 big family tents out of cumulative 4,000 blankets and 6,000 tents as part of the initial consignment.
The consignment was dispatched through a special Chartered Flight of PIA to Syria.
While expressing deep grief over the loss of lives, the Education Minister said Pakistan would continue to support Syria in the humanitarian crisis caused by the massive earthquake.
Pakistan to send more relief assistance to quake-hit Turkiye and Syria
The Chairman NDMA, Lt Gen Inam Haider, said while Pakistan was still recovering from the recent floods, the Prime Minister had directed the authority to make all-out relief assistance available for brotherly Muslim countries in these complex and challenging times.
He said a large NDMA road convoy loaded with relief items would tentatively leave on February 10 for Syria.
The NDMA is also arranging Urban Rescue and Search team for Syria and Turkiye. Besides that, NDMA will collect any donation items from NGOs, government departments, and people for packaged cargo dispatch to Turkiye and Syria in the coming days.
The Syrian Ambassador thanked the Pakistani Government and the People of Pakistan for sending humanitarian assistance to affectees in their hour of need.
