Pakistan Day: President Approves Remission for Prisoners

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday approved a remission of the prisoners’ sentences on the occasion of Pakistan Day annually observed on 23 March. The president, exercising his powers under Article 45 of the Constitution, granted a remission of ninety days in sentences.

However, the remission is not for the prisoners who are involved in espionage, murder, and anti-state activities. Besides, the prisoners involved in theft, robbery, rape, kidnapping, terrorism and financial crimes would also be ineligible for remission.

 

The remission in sentences will be applicable for male prisoners above 65 years of age and female prisoners above 60 years of age, who had completed one-third of their sentences.  While Juvenile prisoners, who had completed one-third of the sentence will also be entitled to remission.
