ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs7.54 per litre while increasing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs1.48 per litre, effective from August 1, 2025.
The revision follows a fortnightly review of international oil prices and input from relevant regulatory bodies, the Finance Division said in a notification issued on Thursday night.
According to the notification, the new price of petrol has been set at Rs264.61 per litre, down from Rs272.15. Whereas, the price of HSD has been raised to Rs285.83 per litre from the previous Rs284.35.
The prices were revised on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the concerned ministries.
In the previous review on July 16, the government had increased petrol prices by Rs5.36 per litre and HSD by Rs11.37 per litre, citing global market fluctuations.
Petrol, widely used by motorcycles, rickshaws, and private vehicles, has a direct impact on the daily expenses of lower- and middle-income households.
Meanwhile, HSD is crucial for Pakistan’s transport and agriculture sectors, powering heavy vehicles, buses, trains, and farm machinery such as tractors and tube wells.
The decision was taken following a review of prevailing international market trends and upon the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and relevant ministries, a statement from the Finance Division said.
Due to its widespread use, any increase in the price of diesel is considered highly inflationary, as it pushes up the cost of food, vegetables, and other essential goods.
