NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parilla convened a meeting in New York during the 78th United Nations General Assembly Session, held late Tuesday with both agreeing to enhance bilateral relations, focusing on trade, biotechnology, education, and health.

During the meeting, the two sides engaged in discussions covering a broad spectrum of topics, including bilateral, multilateral, and regional issues, as reported by the Foreign Office.

Foreign Minister Jilani underscored the excellent relations between Pakistan and Cuba, highlighting their shared perspectives on regional and global matters.

He commended the close collaboration between the two nations in various international forums, notably the United Nations (UN), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the G-77 & China group.

Additionally, Minister Jilani expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the Pakistani people for the valuable medical assistance provided by Cuba following the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan in 2005.

He recalled the dedication of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla, who, at that time, served as Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister and stayed in Pakistan for more than six months.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Jilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Cuba during its Chairmanship of the G-77 & China in 2023. He congratulated his Cuban counterpart on the successful organization of the G-77+China Summit, which took place in Havana on September 15-16, 2023. —APP
