HONG KONG: Pakistan lifted the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 trophy after a dominant 44-run victory over Kuwait at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok on Sunday, capping a powerful all-round performance in the final.
Batting first, Pakistan got off to a flying start. Opener Abdul Samad smashed Yasin Patel’s second ball of the match for six, while the bowler conceded three wides under pressure.
Khawaja Nafay joined the assault, clearing the ropes with his first delivery as Pakistan raced to 26 runs in the opening over.
Kuwait fought back briefly when Meet Bhavsar dismissed Nafay for 22 off six balls. But skipper Abbas Afridi kept the scoring rate high with consecutive sixes, and Samad continued his aggressive form to push Pakistan past 50 inside three overs.
By the end of the fourth over, Pakistan had reached 95 for 1, thanks to Samad’s explosive hitting.
Bhavsar struck again to remove Samad for 42 off 13 balls, which included five sixes, before dismissing Shahid Aziz for a duck. Maaz Sadaqat steadied the innings, while Afridi’s onslaught turned the game.

Afridi’s blistering innings lifts total to 136
Afridi hammered seven sixes and two fours in a breathtaking 52 off just 11 balls before retiring hurt. Pakistan finished at 136 for 3 in their allotted six overs, posting one of the highest totals of the tournament.
Bhavsar took three wickets but conceded heavily as Pakistan maintained a scoring rate of over 22 runs per over.

Kuwait’s chase falters despite strong start
Kuwait started aggressively, with Adnan Idrees smashing multiple sixes in the opening over, taking 32 runs off Shahid Aziz.
Mohammad Shahzad responded in the next over, removing Idrees for 30 off eight deliveries. Despite Bhavsar’s fluent 33 not out, Kuwait lost momentum as Sadaqat’s accurate bowling turned the tide.
Sadaqat claimed three quick wickets, ending Kuwait’s hopes of recovery. Kuwait were bowled out for 92 in five overs, handing Pakistan a comprehensive 44-run victory.
The win marked Pakistan’s sixth Hong Kong Sixes title, reaffirming their dominance in the shortest format of the game.
The team had earlier edged out Australia by one run in a tense semi-final, where Khawaja Nafay hit a 14-ball half-century to secure a place in the final.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the team on social media.
