ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the caretaker federal cabinet has granted a three-month extension to Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee. The decision was announced following approval by the cabinet, as per a notification released by the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry.

However, this extension comes with certain restrictions. The notification outlines that the powers of the PCB Management Committee have been limited during this period. Notably, the Management Committee is prohibited from making high-level appointments and policy decisions. Instead, their responsibilities will primarily involve conducting the election of the Board of Governors and the Chairman. Day-to-day affairs will remain within their purview.

Furthermore, it is specified in the notification that this extension is for a maximum of three months and will not be extended beyond that duration.

Zaka Ashraf has been leading the PCB Management Committee since its formation in July 2023, initially for a four-month term. This extension is the result of a decision by the caretaker Prime Minister, who serves as the patron of the PCB.

In a separate development, former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi recently held a meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar to discuss various aspects related to Pakistan’s cricket. During the meeting, Afridi, who has previously captained the national team, shared his insights and recommendations to enhance the state of the game in the country. Prime Minister Kakar encouraged Afridi to actively contribute to cricket development, focusing on areas that can lead to its improvement.
