ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Interim Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf has been summoned by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday (December 11) following a meeting request, media reported on Saturday.

According to media reports, Zaka Ashraf will seek permission from PM Kakar to exercise his authority, considering the current restrictions imposed on the PCB interim management, preventing them from making policy decisions or high-level appointments. The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) issued a notification deeming all decisions made by the Zaka Ashraf-led management as temporary.

Due to the scheduled meeting with the Caretaker Prime Minister, Zaka Ashraf will not be able to attend the final of the ongoing National T20 Cup.

Zaka Ashraf-led PCB Interim Management Gets Three-Month Extension

The Ministry of Inter-provincial Coordination had granted a three-month extension to the Zaka Ashraf-led body, which was set to end on November 5. The new extension notification reiterated the restriction on the interim management committee, allowing them to handle only day-to-day affairs without making policy decisions or high-level appointments.

The primary task assigned to the Management Committee is to finalize the Board of Governors and conduct elections for the Chairman of PCB at the earliest.

The PCB has been operating on an ad-hoc basis since December 2022, following the removal of Chairman Ramiz Raja, with Najam Sethi initially named as the chief of the first interim committee, later replaced by the committee led by Zaka Ashraf in June.

Ashraf’s leadership has faced criticism for its decision-making and delay in conducting board elections, which was the initial mandate when it assumed office in July.
