KEY POINTS

  • PCB shortlisted 5 out of 6 bidders after thorough review for Multan Sultans franchise auction.
  • PSL chief Salman Naseer welcomes strong interest, promising exciting team auction.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday approved five bidders for the sale of Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans, clearing them to participate in the ownership process ahead of the league’s 11th edition, scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3.

PCB’s evaluation team meticulously sifted through every application that landed before the January 30 cutoff, ensuring fairness at every step.

This careful scrutiny weeded out one entry, greenlighting the remaining five to compete in the financial showdown that will determine the franchise’s next chapter.

Optimism fuels league hype

PSL director Salman Naseer couldn’t hide his enthusiasm over the flood of quality proposals, calling it a testament to the league’s growing appeal.

“This level of competition promises an electrifying team auction, priming fans for the player draft and kicking off a bold new phase with eight franchises,” he remarked, urging supporters to stay locked in for announcements.

Tareen’s comeback adds drama

Adding spice to the mix, Ali Tareen, the entrepreneur who steered Multan Sultans to their triumphant 2021 PSL crown, plans a bold return after walking away from renewal talks post-season 10 due to irreconcilable differences with PCB management.

PSL expansion

PCB’s open call for owners last month successfully drew deep-pocketed interest, reflecting the franchise’s proven success and market value.

With the auction date and venue still under wraps, all eyes remain on how this ownership shakeup will reshape strategies for the upcoming expanded tournament format.
